Last Thursday the senior undergrads in the photo department put together a fundraiser to raise money for the their senior/BFA show. In the spirit of building the photo community Jori, Matt and I attended the fundraiser, held at FU-Bar in Champaign. This blog isn't just for us grads.
This past weekend Chambanagraphers Donald and Matt made a trip to Memphis, TN to see a show by photographer Alec Soth. Soth most recent opening is his show of tunnels and birds which opened this past Friday at the Power House Memphis, part of the Delta Axis, a non-profit that celebrates contemporary art and film. Check out the website here.
Since this is news that pertains both to me personally and the Chamabana area at large I'll simply provide a link to my newest post at my personal blog.
Last Friday was a big night for openings in Chicago galleries, and a few of us went up to see what was showing. Turns out, I was a little underwhelmed. There was a lot of crap, some okay stuff, and only a few things I found particularly interesting. The Caleb Weintraub show at Peter Miller was really entertaining. I dislike a lot of painting, but this was good. BucketRider has a good how too, with Chris Uphues and Alexia Stamatiou. Also a painting show. I didn't see much photo, which disappoited me.
